Status: Needs Review

[MS ?]
The only thing is, that I am obliged to keep people at a distance
to prevent them from [paps? perhaps?] their jokes & quizzing me, all which
is well enough but it will not do, for this reason, it
lowers me in the estim'n [estimation] of my people. There has been too much
of it, and I being rather easy till I am put out [5 words underlined] have allowed
it too much, and now that the affair is [indecipherable] I have adopted
and shall continue to adopt a diff't [different] course, viz to check [underlined]
them in their remarks & observ'ns [observations] which I can easily do with
a little [indecipherable] & few [indecipherable]. I find the people very kind
and hospitable but by no means refined, or [particular?]
as to what they say.... Do not you think I am right.
... As to being married. it wd [would] be folly to thing of it at
present.. The Bishop may [underlined] remove me if he pleases
as he has only sent me a copy [underlined] of my license,
but I do not think he will do so, without cause,
hav'g [having] sent me 200 miles from my family, and [viewing?]
the expenses attend't [attendant] on such a removal, I do not
anticipate such a thing, but until he [sends?] me the
license, which wd place me here permanently
I must not think of marrying... I sent
him a full report of my proceeding on 4th June last
and sensible of many shortcomings... However if
his Lp[Lordship] did [underlined] remove me, it wd only postpone[underlined] the
happy day, & he cd but do so, in [practice?] without
finding me an equivalent maintenance...
Do I reason justly? The truth is, he owning to [this?]
unfortunate leaning to Romanism in times past.
he feels obliged to hold the rod over me for a
little time. I do not think he will remove
me but it wd be more satisfactory if I [indecipherable]
he wd [indecipherable]. Besides the experiences att'g [attending?] the re-
moval of my things from Sydney, I am obliged to
spend money on [gelling?] up a garden &c, and it cd
be rather mortifying when obliged to because often
hav'g not made improv'ts [improvements?] and as to hav'g a [garden?]
I require [underlined] one for vegetables & a place wd be
so bare in the summer time without a flower
garden
