My Dear Son,

It is with great pleasure I take
my Pen to acknowledge the receipt of yours
dated Batavia Roads 3d Sepbr 1817, but should
have been much more gratified had your
letter have bourne the date of London which
might have been the case when we concider
what other Vessels have done in the time
but however, we are very short Sited mortals
and it always behoves us to be still to learn
that the Lord, He is God - His Excy was
very much Supprized at the Route your
Capt had taken and sent for me to hear
the particulars, and seemed somewhat
Pleased to hear that Capt Shaw, Parker
& Daw had left the Vessell and Obserd
that they would reach home about
Febry - If it should please the Lord
to Sanctify the Voyage you have taken
we shall have cause for thankfullness.
Such a Vessell you went in is a
most Excellent School for to learn
the true Nature of man in his
Fallen Estate may God grant that
