[MS 836]
Our Sunday School in Parramatta is still
carried on very comfortable through the
good attention paid to them by your pious
family we have now in the School all
to-gether 133 Children and 16 Teachers,
of whome [whom] I have the Honor of being one
and I Trust in the Lord that he will
enable me to be faithful to the end, and
we have a blessed opportunity of being
brought to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Mr Hassall and Mr Lowry labours hard to
bring the aged and the young from darkness
unto the marvalous light of the blessed
Gosple, and I hope the Lord will not let
their labours be in vein.
Dear Sir, and I hope the Lord will send
you home to us again, my Brother
William desires his love to you.
Sir I remain your humble and
most Obedient Servant
Jas [James] Byrnes

[Paragraph crossed out and then re-written below]

They appear fond of their children & ^generally^ indulge them
to an excess (crossed out word) yet few however attain to the age of
manhood from the very scanty means of sustenance
afforded them through the idleness of their parents -
Their food consists of fern roots - grubs from
the bark of Trees with fish & wild animals which are
(crossed out word) never more than half roasted without any other previous
preparation (crossed out word) than that of catching (crossed out word) & casting them
on a fire ---
