Parramatta April 2nd. 1844 –

It seems to me, to be a long time, since I had the pleasure
of addressing you, my beloved son - and yet I know, such
not to be the case, although I do not immediately re-
-collect the date of my last letter. – Changes such as have
taken place in our Colonial Community - crowd
upon the mind – and masks the passing times seem
longer, than upon ordinary occasions – What I
now write, I expect will be conveyed by the
Genl. Hewett – expected to Sail on the 4th of the
present month – a fine Ship, and full of Colonial
produce – I believe Mr. W. Fane de Salis returns to
England by this Conveyance – I do not know if
either of your Brothers write – James wrote by
the Hamlet & by the Midlothian – both those
Vessels have our Wool – I heard from Camden
yesterday – by Mr. Anderson, who has been staying
there a few days – to observe upon the Vintage
which is said to be a favorable one – the
weather latterly – having proved to be beneficial
to the ripening of the Vines – so that it is
