to embark in so general a Scheme altho' as
you will perceive from his Letter very ready to
procure as many Emigrants as we might wish
to have on our own Account. The entire success
which has attended the first of our attempts by
the Brothers will have the effect no doubt of
influencing the Peasantry whom we may be enabled
to engage, in availing themselves of the opportu-
=nities of Emigrating held out to them by the
Government. Finding Mr. West reluctant to lend
his aid to the general purpose of Emigration I
requested he would engage Six Families, and he
replies to me in the following Terms.

The Plan which you propose is altogether
congenial to my present wishes and feelings and I shall
be happy in seeking to supply your want of Emigrant
Servants of this neighbourhood. The engagement of
a few Families, as you mention may be accomplished
I think, without much difficulty, so as for them
to be locally assisted in their outfit, and conveyed
