My dear Brothers
The accompanying Papers will suffi
-ciently explain themselves and when you have conversed
with Mr Plunkett, whom I have seen, you will
understand all that I am endeavouring to effect
for you and others in the Colony.
It is more than probable that nothing practical
will result from the efforts I have made. There
are Difficulties in regard to a Loan – undoubtedly –
when the State in which the Government of the
Colony at present stands is considered –
The Government at Home may find in the Land Sales – a
sufficient security for payment of interest on a
Loan, but where is the security for repayment of
th principle. I am and have been writing of
an inflexible iron pen, and cannot get on,
