Carrick on Shannon Novr. 18th 1836 [pencil] ? 1843

My dear Brothers,

I sent a Letter yesterday to Davidson to
be forwarded to you by him thro' the London Post Office and I
now send via Liverpool a Memorandum of the Contents of that
Letter – They are to express my Thankfulness that I am in the
enjoyment of Health notwithstanding the anxiety and care brought
upon me by the inattention to important matters of business which
is observable in all your correspondence with me –

Your last Letters to me by the Royal George dated 7th April con
tain no allusion to Mr. Bowman or his Affairs – altho previous
Letters promised such communication – Subsequently to the depar
ture of Letters of April – the Bank of Australia failed – but no Letter
to me with any account of the its effect upon yourselves –
Previous and subsequent to my coming to Ireland repeated enquiries
from Buckles – and from Buchanan about the expected Letters
from you on Bowman's Affairs –

28th Aug. Messrs. Buckles write "we have received Mr. Bowman's
Wool, but we have not yet heard from your Brother"

12th Sepr. "Mr. Bowman's Letter not containing any Instructions as
to the disposition of his 188 Bales of wool we considered the proceeds
to be intended by him to go in part liquidation of his Debt now
£38000. "We have since a Letter from him advising us of having
two Months after the departure of his wool drawn two Bills of
£1000 each in favor of your Brothers – "In the dark as to his affairs
cannot in justice to ourselves accept them".

"Desirous to cooperate with Mr. B's other Friends in effecting an
equitable management as before expressed to you." "Had we
heard from your Brothers that they were prepared to take upon them
-selves the liquidation of Mr. B's Debts – even at a distant period
should not have hesitated to waive our claims our right to the entire
proceeds of the Wool, which we now hold – or to honor the Drafts In
the absence of such Engagement you may feel justified in giving such
a guarantee". My reply was that it was out of my Power. I fully
explained the transaction & I thought effectually, but on the 6th. Novr.
they again write. "we have heard nothing from Sydney about
Mr. Bowman's Affairs since one Letter of 12 Sept" "Cannot Honor
the first of his Drafts for £1000, which will fall due to morrow" "You
may be disposed to interfere to protect your Brothers' Interests &c.
Will endeavour to Induce Bank of Aus. to hold it until you
