My dear William,

As you have never written to me on the
subject, I fear the Vine Dressers, whom I sent to you by
the "Fama" did not answer your expectations or that some
thing was wrong either as respects their numbers, or from
some other Cause. You may be assured however I did the
best I could under the circumstances of the Times to
meet your wishes, and it would have been very gratifying
to me after all the pains I took, to have had some
details about them. But I fear you have had your hands
more than full, and have needed assistance, and could
you be well aided by those who know their business it
would be far better than that your attention should be
divided amongst a diversity of objects. However bear
in mind that Providence wills not that Man shall become
rich or exalted without Toil, Peril, and Privation.

The object of my now writing to you is that you may be
gratified with the Account I have recently received of the
Plants which you sent to me for the King of Saxony –
Under date of Dresden 25th. of last month, our amiable
Friend Mr. Schütze gives the following report of them. "His Majesty
has been uncommonly pleased with the Plants of Australia,
