28 Plants 8 only dead, 20 in excellent condition, and
of these 2 only were known here, the rest quite new specimens
I have lately been to Pilnitz, where the Chief Gardener showed
them to me in high condition. But the Seeds what a Treasure
The King had at various times parcels of Seeds from England
but, in spite of all the care taken of them, the far greater
part would not grow, but those, my dear Colonel, received
from your Brother, are not only unknown, and were
never before seen here, but all the seed that has been
sown comes up beautifully. It afforded me and
Mrs. Schütz as much pleasure to see them thrive so
well as they afford pleasure to the King. Having reserved
for myself a few grains of most of the different seeds,
I have added to my green House at Schwabe, a small
Hot House for the purpose of raising the Australian
Exotics. I dare say when you visit Saxony the next time
I shall be able to show them to you in a flourishing
State."
