No. 35
Carrick on Shannon 14th. Decr./43
My dear Brothers,
I have already sent you in Duplicate thro'
Buckles a Statement of the Sales of the Wool of the present
years importation, stating that as I had with me no
Memoranda to which to refer it might not altogether
correspond with the account of the June Sale before
transmitted. It is however substantially correct – and
I rejoice to have found a Market for it upon any terms
considering all the circumstances. There will be found
I believe no very great variation between the gross proceeds
of 1842 and 1843.
I have paid Buckles £74.18.11 for
Wool Bagging – respecting which nothing
is said by you either one way or the other
You will now have sufficient materials
to make up your Account in England for the year, which
I cannot do in Ireland. Be assured of this, that the Ex-
-penditure of the Family must be brought within its
income – be the inconvenience and the annoyance what
it may. These are not Times to stand watching a change
of Tide.
Whether Emigration is to be carried on upon a Scale com-
-mensurate with the wants of the Colony will depend more
upon the Representations of the Governor and Colonial
