willing character. I confess I have not much
faith in property qualifications - but the
people of N. S. Wales have ample power
in the selection of their Representatives in
the Assembly - and I believe that under any
franchise, generally speaking, the best
men will be chosen. Those who have
political ambition will not stand for
the Council. The Colony goes on increasing
in Population - & wealth - and its resources
are being more & more developed.
You see our newspapers. I suppose.
Mr Rolleston has just read a Paper
only 2 or 3 days since, giving the results of
our Census - showing most satisfactory
results. It is hardly possible to imagine
a prettier sight than the Domain
during the time of the Volunteer Reviews
on the last Queen's Birthday. The thousands
of well dresses happy Citizens. The day
being remarkably fine produced a most
pleasing appearance. The Levee was
the largest ever known. The Volunteers
looked well - a thousand strong -
