Matters when two such
men of business as Hamilton
and your brother will be
at home to take care of
that interest. I should have
liked a new honor very much
to take part in the great
excitement and also to
show my wife some of the
wonders of the old country, to
see old faces and renew
acquaintances, and I could
have got leave easily enough
from the Governor here without
appeal to the Treasury at home,
but as I cannot see I am
wanted I have no plea that
I could conscientiously raise.
