2nd Janry Visited the county seat of Genl Leyser near [indecipherable] (Gersdorf) polite & hospitable reception – Sledge – Flock consists of 1500 – 800 others – at Gers dorf – Some of them very fine but a great difference The fleeces average 2½ lbs sold the best last year for 24 Thrs the 22 lbs – Price of Ewes 12 Thrs – of rams from 30 to 50 & upwards – The Genl is endeavoring to combine

weight & fineness – I do not like this flock so well as Mr Von Planitz – The genl. appearance & character of whose sheep please me better than any I have yet seen tho' Mr. Gadegust's are certainly the finest wool'd of either – Genl De Leyser was an A. D. C. of Bernadotte of whom he speaks in high terms – He was in all the German & Russian Campaigns of Napoleon – Beautiful Breed of [indecipherable] Cattle – milk white – Grey when calved –
