I have long had a desire to visit
New Guinea but I fear it will
never be realized, having now a
wife and young ones to look after.

I received from a friend who had
gathered them in the Public Gardens
at Rio Janiero, some seeds many
of which are coming up, and I hope
to be able to send you some of
the plants –

The weather you speak about
as having experienced must have
been dreadful – The season here
has been dry, but not at all
hot, the worst season I have
ever known for plant growing,
and nearly all the larger fruits
have been destroyed by the high
winds –

I have received a publication called
"Castners rural Australian" and in it I
have seen an account of (Jany No) two
Horticultural Shows in parts of Sydney, a
Mr Ford (gardener to J. Marks Esqre) appears to
