I must again send my
letters via Southampton for the
continent is so disturbed and
the railways so destroyed – the
claims are that they might be
detained – How you will all grieve
to think that any hour may
see Paris in ruins – for the people
there seem mad – and vow that
rather than that a Prussian victory
that they will blow it up – set

ruin – Of home news – I have none
but to continue our good acct
of your uncle being very well – the
change here has done him
a world of good – the weather
continues all we could wish
and we as heretofore live in
the open carriage or sitting out
