Rain during night. Grey lowering day.
Delys and Arthur Cross & Newnham came at 9.
I gave them morning tea at 10.30 & dinner at 12.30.
Dinner was boiled cornbeef with chokos & carrots in rich butter sauce & potatoes mashed also with much butter.
Christmas plum pudding with sweet cornflour sauce. Tea, mustard, etc.
A. painted spouting & changed grates in kitchen & patched the sink with cement. N. put a new gadget on electric iron & renovated the post outside back door.
Delys did lot of clearing in the garden, ironed a table cloth and overall & sorted the Publicists : went by 3.30 Newnham earlier.

Bottom line - ‘borrowed ladders from Ollie’. Ollie (or Olly) Coates is Miles’ neighbour. In the diary entry for 12 March 1953, Miles also writes ‘ I borrowed Ollie’s ladder’
