Saturday 13

Fine day but still chilly. Started in garden but Vance telephoned about 3 saying he wanted to come & had had no lunch. So I buzzed around & made a clearance. Put on some potatoes, opened a tin of pears & gave him what I had left over for tomorrow - cold corn beef with parsnip carrot & turnip. He ate with apparent relish winding up with plum cake, & tea out of waratah cup. I gave him coffee & biscuits at 6 & he left at 6.20. Frail & old & gentle: I was alarmed & grieved to know he had had a coronary. Had a talk on phone with F. E. Hooper earlier. Got to bed by midnight.
