Monday 24

Fine dry chilly day again. Copied out short story, roughed out an article on Hansom Cab & wrote a long letter. Did some watering and slashing jungle in garden. Telephoned Roderick to congratulate him on Ralph Rashleigh.

Tuesday 25

Chilly day again. Maximum temperature 72° Finished the article on Hansom Cab & cleared up minor letters. Went to butcher, cooked the first of my tiny plot of butter beans. Nell Jordan telephoned me and wants me to go to Kosciusko with her in Jan. I'd love to. Wonder if it's feasible.

Thursday 27

Cold day. At 6 pm Mrs Andreson & I went to local cinema to see a Street Car Called Desire. V. Leigh acted well but had too much of the same thing to say over & over. I loathed the brutality & naked lust. Went to butcher. Did a tiny bit in garden.

Friday 28

Not too warm. Threatened rain and at bedtime was wet every where with heavy drizzle. Telephoned Pixie - she's not too well. I put the new bits in 3 copies of Chap IX. Early lunch & to town for Christmas Shopping & newsreel. Home by 5pm. Mildred's 4 children came in: I gave them sweets and flowers.
