till 7.10 & went home & did A.A.'s
letters. Chilblains & miserable dis-
comfort.

Hard white frost.
Home early owing to telephone
from A.A. Smith. Fine but
not clear

I called up Fred. Hard
white frost. Worked till
nearly ten. Very tired

I think A.A. Smith is Annie Amelia Smith, also called "Nan". One of Miles' letters in My Congenials notes that "Miss Smith" fell ill on 4th Feb, and died on 26th May.
