14 SUNDAY

Wrote one or two perplexing letters & roughed out an article on "Coué for D. T. & read papers. Miss Henry burst upon me at 6.30 with the good news that she had a nice accretion to her income. Very glad to hear this. It lifts a load of distressed sympathy from me. Sun shone in my window pale & warm Cold & nipping. Chilblains prevented rest.

15 MONDAY

Grey drizzling day. Got home to find a party on & myself pursued by Miss Henry. To escape her I waited on the residents in the smoking room then upstairs & typed out my article on M. Coué which I sent to Daily Telegraph. Had a lovely Christmas mail from home.

Blundered around all day following Mr A's insane methods of circularising his book. In evening Wood & Hodgson & I had dinner at Flemings. I bought a new pair of shoes. Great event. Put the thought of a new play in my head -

Got over to office a little before 8 & drove hard on Mr A's voluminous book circulars all day. Home and warmed up parsnips in my room for evening meal. Wrote to Rika Stoffel. Play germinating.

Grey drizzling mild day. Quarterly & Executive meetings in office & Mr A. not preparing as usual till the people were coming in the door. Miss H. Miss Wood & I had an evening bite at that Lyons place cr. of H. Holborn & Kings way.
