Grey mild drizzling day pottered in office. Miss Wood had evening meal with me at Minerva Club.

20 SATURDAY

Grey mild day. Mr Aldridge stuttered over a little report till 4 p.m. I did a little Christmas shopping in between & home to my lair & boiled a little bacon & carrots for evening meal. Called on Miss Henry afterwards in response to 3 notes. She is very addled.

Grey mild day. Mrs Schooling & I for dinner at Lady Byles. I walked most of way there & back for exercise & left book etc. with Miss Henry in response to 4 notes. Simply had to shut my door & pretend I was not at home.

22 MONDAY

Grey mild day pottered in office all day about Mr A's rotten old circularising - he's as mad as a hatter. In evening that other lunatic Miss H. burst upon me with her clothes and foolish questions after trying to get at me at the Club all day. I packed her book of goods & my desk chair and crept home.

Gorgeous sunrise sky a red flame & crisp & clear but it collapsed into rain before noon. Miss H. & Miss Peak both on my track but I crept home & ate a bite in my room in peace - and inexpensive.
