About

Miles Franklin diaries and personal papers
Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin – known as Stella to her family and friends, and as Miles to her readers – was born on 14 October 1879. The young Miles published her best-known and much-loved work My Brilliant Career in 1901. One of the greatest insights into the life of Miles Franklin is the set of pocket diaries that she kept from 1909 until her death in 1954. This project seeks to open up this rich account of a woman committed to promoting Australian literature. These diary pages reveal the everyday, the moments of joy and the many disappointments of one of the great writers of the twentieth century.
