20th September
Mrs. Scott called said as to taking [sup] her [end sup] home, she
[underlined] could not [end underlined], that when she used to send her out with her little boy for a walk, insted [instead] of that, she used to go to forbidden places, and [underlined] teach [end underlined] the little one to tell falsehoods to screen herself - &c
and her fathers place was not [sup] a [end sup] fit home, so much drunkeness. so she advised her to stay her and
have to be good and usefull [useful]

Mary Brown had her thumb crushed in the mangling
machine, she was taken to Watson's Chemist
and had it dressed. Dr. Nathan called this eve'g
[deletion]he said [end deletion].

Friday 21st
Dr. Nathan saw M. Brown - he said Mr. Watsons
treatment of the wrangled thumb was right.
Eliz'th Bowman and Harriet made thier [their] escape.
Jane Davies father came to fetch her home, we sent her to
Mrs. Goodlet.

Saturday 22nd
Emily Turner called this morn'g. I felt
afraid to speak to her, but she had left
her situation in disgrace, but she assured
me "it was all right". she stayed the 5 months
and got her discharge - kept her temperance
pledge, and was engaged to be married!
The news made the girls very merry and some of the elder
ones said "there was hope for them [underlined] after that"[end underlined] -
invited her to call to see the ladies next tuesday whom she should received from them the book which Mr. J Thompson
had left for her together with an ante mcassar [antimacassar]
from Mrs. J Graham - she said the work was hard but
she prayed to God to give her the strength to fulfull her
engagement and he heard her.
