January 1st
Tuesday
Kate Lee started this morn'g to her situation.
She has been a very industrious girl, docile and
obedient and "has made up her mind [underlined] never [end underlined] to
taste the drink that was the cause of her fall". She
signed the temperance pledge, and [sup] has promised to [end sup] read her bible and pray to God for help.

Wednesday 2nd
Matron took Mary Jane and Mary Brown
again to Mrs. Capps in hopes of getting them
off. Louise Kane is going to service with Mrs. Thirkeld from
Mary Jane has engaged & is to go friday.
Florence Girty returned from the Infirmary today.
The Kaikowra's linen brought in.

Thursday 3rd
A man called to ask if we would wash about
a Doz'n white Counterpanes, that they had got
from the "John Duthie (soaked in salt water.)
we have engaged to do them for 5/- pr day."

Friday
The two Gentlemen (Mr. Vallancay (Moor College)
and Mr. I. J. Danne, adressed the two women
that are going to service urging upon them to be
obliging, honest and industrious, and commended
them earnestly [sup]^ in prayer [end sup] to the care of our Heavenly Father.
at the close of their joint lecture last night.
