Jan'y 8th.
Teusday. [tuesday] Mary O'Brians father came for her she
cried and objected to go, telling him she "would
not stay & why cant you let me be, where I can do
better for myself"?
we felt exeedingly sorry for her, but as she is
[underline]under age[end underline]. we had no power to detain her.
We pointed out to her, the sin and disgrace of
keeping bad company. going to dance parties. gay dress
&c. and get a situaiton. and then live a useful and happy life.

between Esther and Jessie Evans. it is
painfull to witness such a spirit of hatred and
revenge, my heart is often sad, scarsly knowing
how best[underlined] to graple with them.

We have a [underline]larger number[end underline] of young[double underlined] girls

minds and dispositions give me much extra
watchfulness and care. still, after all, [underline] they are [end underline] the most hopeful. not being so steeped in vice.
