Jany 17th
Thursday
Jessie Evans complained against Christina
for insulting her - and says she "wont stay"
Christina is a naughty provoking girl, we
know to our sorrow. and we must try again
to induce her to amend, but Jessie must
have [underlined] other reasons [end underlined] for wanting to go.

Friday 18th
Eliza Bruce wants to come back. says her father
has been drinking, and the day after Xmas, he sold up
their home, and went to live with a woman. ^[sup] I said [end sup] But you are old enough to keep yourself, you need not depend on him.
I ^[sup] then [end sup] went to Mary Brown told her Eliza wanted to return, and ask'd would she promise to help me try to teach her to be good if I took her, she said yes I will, I then ask'd J. Tait she made a [sup] similar [end sup] promise.

Saturday 19th
Miss Galbraith got up today, being a little
better.
Lady Young called this eve'g as soon as the
girls saw her, they sang the National Anthem
which her ladyship told them they "sang very well."
Ester Bruce wants to come back. told her she must attend the
com'e on tuesday that I could not take her after such bad ^[sup] conduct [end sup]

Sabbath 20th. No Ministers in the morn'g -
Mr Gibson came 3 oclk and
Mr. Ayton in the eve'g
M. McCormack and E. Lane absented themselves "because they were ill"
all the other inmates attended the services. and were
very attentive.

Monday 21st.
Miss Danne brought a bag of lollies for
the inmates. I measured out an ege[egg?] Cups full
for each and took them round when they seemed
