May 24th
This holiday was began by singing the
National Anthem, and after the morn'gs, worship
a high swing was fixed on the willow tree, which was
in constant use [underlined] all [end underlined] day. when about a dozen of the
young ones had "had their turn". they went up the
garden and had games "Hunt the slipper" "Hen and Chickens"
skipping rope - &c whilst the more sedate retired to
read the "Leisure Hour and sunday at Home."
a very few chose to spend their holiday in sewing for
themselves.
The plumb [plum] cake was done triple justice to and after
tea the fireworks (the first we have had) yielded fun &
amusement at 8 o clk the prayers bell was rang,
and they all left off their play, and cheerfully assembled
"and then they knelt to Him who heareth prayer."

Saturday 25th

Sabbath 26th
No minister this morn'g so Mr. Roberts came
home from s. school to address them
Mr. Fletcher at 3 oclk, and Mr R Thompson 7 oclk
after all had retired, Mary Brown and Eliza Beuce
got the large ladders by which they escaped over the wall. we
must have it chained in the future. this is the first
time our new ladder has been used so.
