Emma Fern having been a tolerably good
girl during the busy time we let her have a
tea party in the ironing room (The cold
weather preventing it being as formerly in the
garden) after tea they sang hymns and
temperance songs. all seemed to enjoy this
little kindness and freedom. Mr. H. Hossack
came at 1/2 past 7oclk and gave an address, and
then told sad tales of suffering and loss of life through
the floods.

Sabbath 30th
Rev'd W. Mills preached 11 oclk.
Mr. Thompson in the eve'g. The inmates
continue to enjoy health & were clean
and orderly. The books, &c, "Sunday at
Home" Good words" &c were in great request
We expected Rev'd G. Woolnough at 3 oclk, (his name
being on their printed plan) but he came not.

July 1st

A Policeman brought a poor abject girl with
nothing but a dirty ragged dress (far too large for
her) and one tattered petticot [petticoat] on.

She has been next door, and escaped from there.
several of the imates wept when they heard of the
dreadfull [dreadful] disasters caused by the storm last week.
I ask'd if they would like to sew for them in the evenings
they all said, they would be glad to do anything in their power
