July 11th Thursday
Received a letter from Deborah Hardcastle, she states
that she has managed with Mr. Reed for 5 months
longer. This intelligence is indeed welcome, as
we were anxious about her.
The books given for the inmates use have been
illused, pictures torn out &c, although we
every thing in our power to protect them.

Friday 12th
We are making wonderful progress with
the ship's washing this month - through
the weather being so favorable.

Saturday 13th
Deborah's mother called to tell me
she had received a letter from her
with a 1 pound note enclosed, as a present.
The poor old lady said, she knew I "would be
glad to hear", she herself never expected any help or
comfort from her. and used to say she "wished Deborah was dead."

Sabbath 14th
No Minister this morn'g - Mr Mills
being called away from home to a sick family.
service at 3 oclk and 7 oclk, the father
was unusually earnest, and solemn, three of
the girls wept.

Monday 15th
Eliza Lane is under deep impressions
because she is "such a wicked sinner" she cried
and came to my room asking if it was possible for
one so bad to be forgiven!' I pointed to her these
beautiful words "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and
thou shalt be saved" &c "Lord have mercy upon me a Sinner."
