October 11th.
Sabbath. Mr. Tilley gave an address 11 oclk.
Mr. J. Rosby 3 oclk. and J. G. Catly in the evening.
All the inmates except poor
Eliza Ash are in health. and in attendance
at the services of the day . Several both ministers
and laymen have expressed their astonishment
at their uniform good conduct. and exellent singing.

Monday 12th. M. A. Smith came by train to see us, after
an absence of 3 months and a fortnight. during
which time she has earned a good character, and
brought £6 -- of her wages to buy clothes with.
she said "my heart felt rejoiced like, when I got to
the gate for I knowd there was a welcome for me
inside". and giving me her money she said this is
the [underline] first honest penny [end underline] I earned for many a day".

I took her to "Hordens" and we bought 1½ Dozen yds.
good calico. 4 dresses and a great number of other
usefule articles amount in all to £5.4.0. these we spread on my Parlor table, and sent for all the inmates
in rotation, to see them. and many were the congratulations
she received. each inmate as she left, got a share of a pound of
lollies M.A brought for them. They went back to their work with double energy

Teusday 13th. Sub comt. met. 5 ladies present
Eliza Campbell went out, under protest from the ladies.
M. A. Wilson engaged as general
servant for 12 months 7/. per week. "Merembulla [Merimbula?] Two fold Bay"
with Mr P. [Kalun?] (a German) Mrs. Roach "Pettys Hotel", called this eveg.
respecting Jane Brownlee (I had been some 5 weeks ago
to the Hotel, offering Jane, in answer to an advertisement)
she wanted her as a general servant for her (Mrs. R) sister
who has lately lost her husband. Jane was very glad to go. 7/. per
week. her mistress's name is Mrs. Bowler - Ashfield.
