B-1-9 Hickman County version April the 17th 1812
Sir I have receved a commission for Edmon Gee but there is a mistake [two words lined out] he was appointed Lieutenant but the commission is for Ensign perhaps the mistake might have been in me as the return of the Election was Either lost or mislaid by me you will therefore send a commission to him as Lieutenant as soon as posable by male and all returns be pleased to send by male as that is the safest way and if there should any mistake happen in any returns sent on by me let me know as I rectify them Dear Sir I am yours With respect Wm Phillips Col 3rd regiment

NB I also send you a certificate enclosed of My Election as Sheriff you will be pleased to forward my commission as Sheriff as soon as possable and date it to the time of my Election I have been acting in that place four years and never been Commissioned but it is thought Beneficial at this time to be commisson ed agreeable to the constitution Wm Phillips
