Neill S. Brown GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, To all who shall see these Presents-GREETING: WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN MADE KNOWN TO ME that a certain Alfred Bailey, charged with having committed a foul and atroucious Murder on the 14th day of April, 1848, in our county of Bradley, had fled from justice and is now running at large. Now, therefore, I, Neill S. Brown, Governor as aforsaid by virtue of the power and authority in me vested, do hereby offer a reward of two hundred dollars to any person or persons who may apprehend the said Alfred Bailey and deliver him to the Sheriff or Jailor of our county of Bradley, in order that justice in that behalf may be had and executed. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of the State be affixed, at Nashville, on the 13th day of July, 1848. By the Governor: N.S. BROWN. DESCRIPTION: Said Bailey is supposed to be five feet eight or nine inches high, heavy made, swarthy complexion, down and surly look, heavy dark beard, supposed to be between thirty-five and forty years of age. at the last sccount of him, he was in Walker County, Ga. and the general impression is that he will go to Texas. Bailey is supposed to weigh from one hundred and fifty to one hundred and sixty pounds, rather slow of speech and coarse voice. July 26, 1848---4t 396

State of Tennessee Bradley County I Thomas S Bates of Bradley County and state aforesaid do hereby certify that James C Poe WT Poe & George H (illegible) on 27th of Sept 1848 delivered to me at Bradley County Jail Alfred Baily who had been charged with the murder of Isaac Howell of Bradley County Tennessee on the fourteenth day of April 1848 And the same Alfred Baily for which the Governor of the state of Tennessee has offered a reward of two hundred dollars bearing date of the 13th of July 1848 And the description of the said Baily bearing date July 26, 1848 Given under my hand Sept 28 1848 Thos S Bates Sheriff and Jailor of Bradley County

State of Tennessee Bradley County I John H. Robertson clerk of the county court for the County of Bradley aforesaid do certify that Thomas S. Bates whose name appears to the foregoing certificate is the Lawful Sheriff and Jailor in the County of Bradleyaforesaid that he was duly Elected and qualified as the Law directs-given under my had and Seal of officer at office in Cleveland September the 28th 1848 John H.
