ToHis Excellency Neil S. Brown

Dear Sir

Through the Hon
George A. Starkweather I take the liberty of addressing you,
for the purpose of soliciting the appointment of Commissioner in
this State to take acknowledments of instruments and papers
to be used in your state.

I have been for sometime, and am now an
attorney and counsellor of all the Courts in this State, and also
of the U.S. Courts; and I think that I shall be able to perform with
correctness and punctuality the duties of the office which I
humbly ask from your hands.

I could, if it should be deemed necessary and prop=
er, send to you letters from the Judges of our higher Courts and
from several of my personal friends of this City, with some of
whom you are probably acquainted and who would be much
pleased to have me receive the appointment.

If your Excellency should be so kind as to confer
on me the office which I so earnestly desire, my friends would
be highly pleased, and I would feel indebted to you for a favor
that it should be my study to reciprocate at the earliest oppor-
tunity.

Hoping to hear from Your Excellency as soon after
the receipt of this letter as convenience wil permit, I am
