La grange 27th August 1838
Dear sir,
Since we had last, the honor of ad -dressing you, R. T. Mahaffey, a Representative of the stock on the part of the state, in the La grange and Memphis R. R. Company, is number'd with those who are no more. - It is important that this vacancy be filled as speedily as your pleasure and circumstances [permits?] of, by the appointment of a Gentle -man whose circumstances will admit of his ready attendance as our Board; To aleviate [sic] delay, in absence of other recommendations we would take the Liberty of designating Mr George Anderson of La grange as such a Representative. -
Our work continues regularly to pro -gress, notwithstanding the unprecendented pressure of the Times, one third of it now being ready for the superstructure, and the whole being under contract for completion in 1839 -
We should be gratefull [sic] for such sug -gestions from you, from time to time, as you may believe conducive to our wellfare [sic] and the speedy prosecution of our work, as we fear, under existing regulations being very much [traninelled?] for want of Funds & -
your Friend & servant. - C. Michie P. LaM. R.
