Dear Sir

I received within the last week the resignation
of John Anderson the surveyor of Sullivan county; also
a number of letters recommending as his successor John
Anderson Jr.
and Abraham Greeg- Mesrs Gammon
& McClelland, Genl King, John Rhea and many others
speak in the highest terms of the integrity and capacity
of Greeg- I have therefore determined to appoint him;
and request that you will be pleased to forward
him a commission as soon as convenient.

Major Smith informing me that in three weeks from
the opening of his office, he had rec.d about forty five
thousand dollars, a great portion of which, was in U.S.
notes-specie and Southern paper.

As I expect to go up the first good day, I shall
add nothing further.
