Commissioners Office Nashville 4th April 1822
His Excellency Governor Carroll
The undersigned Commissioners of Land
claims for West Tennessee, beg leave to represent to
your Excellency, that the claims filed in this Office
for adjudication under the acts of Assembly Chaptr
23 & 53 passed at the last meeting of that Body,
are vastly more numerous than seems to have been
contemplated: amounting to 1651 of all descriptions
besides a number of others previously there; and which
will require more time to examine and do justice to,
than is allowed by said Acts: there being but two
months set a part for that purpose. And after
mature reflection they have determined to be
none of the warrants out of their possession untill
they have contemplated the adjudication of all
filed for that purpose or untill the last of July.
Hence a vast number will be thrown into circula=
=tion at the same time; and there being no law
to authorise drawing for priority of Entry; much con=
=fusion and injustice may be expected, without further
Legislative provision; and as the undersigned are
^advised that a called Session of the Legislature is con=
=templated during the present year, and as
