Dr Sir

Enclosed I send you my resig
=nation and introduce to
you Mr William L. Petty
a youg [sic] man of first rate
Mathiu-matical [sic] knowledge
and the Gentleman that has done
the business of the District for
better than two years. and
I have no hesitation in saying
that he would render more satis
faction to the people of the
District than any other person
that could fill the apointment
should you think proper to
give him the apointment: you
will confer a favour on a worthy
young man and oblige
your obedient servant
