plans it would be impracticable for the want of stone
and in others for the want of a market. it is like every
other business the manager or who ever has the direction
of the officers of a prison must do that. that is most ad=
vantagious [sic] in the situation where he is located and I hold
with such disipline as is necessary in a prison the con=
victs can be made to do any thing you wish and with=
out such discipline nothing can be done profitably. This
is the whole secrete [sic] of prison keeping and on it depends
the prosperity of the penetentiary system, more than are
the construction of a house, alltho [sic] that is important-

7^th What punishment is inflicted for disorderly conduct
or disobedience - Corporeal [sic] -

8^th What is your Police [sic]
This institution is governed by an Agent. he appoints
all the Keepers, Mechanics & Guards, and makes all regu=
lations for its government. There are 3 Commissioners
who have unlimited power and they have appointed
and agent and deligated their powers to him. There
are three [?] Mechanics & 6 Keepers -

9^th Have you any Guards? if so how many?
We have 10

10th What would be the proper size for the employment
