Shelbyville May 5th 1827
Dr Sir
Some time about the first of March last when
it was known that Mr Fulton had resigned
the office of Atto Genl for this district and that
A Martin Esq of this place would be an applicant
for the protem appointment - I was induced to
ask the appointment of Entry taker for Bedford
County which would be vacated in the
event of Mr Martins sppointment.
To this end I procured the recommendation
of a few friends residing in this place and sent
them to the seat of Government by Mr Martin
But on account of the absence of your Excellency at
that time he did not leave them, but brought
them home with him intending to forward them on
again so soon as we should hear of the return of
the Executive
That event having taken place and Mr Martin
having rcd the appointment for which he was
an applicant his office as Entry taker becomes vacant
and if you think me worthy and qualified to dis
=charge the duties of the station I should Esteem
it a signal favour to receive it - Should you
grant my request it is desirable that I be informed of
it as soon as practicable. Next week being Court
week the probability is some business will be presented
at the office, and it would be well to have some per
son to attend to it -
I Remain with great regard
your Excellencys
