Dear Sir
I rec.d yours by this evenings mail, desiring that I would
accept a protempore appointment of Judge, for the purpose of holding
the Courts in the circuit above [us? viz?] - Your letter finds me in the
midst of our County Courts, and under an engagement to appear for
a citizen of Sumner County, charged with a criminal offence in
the county of Allen Ky. next week. Mr Peytons however will
go to Kentucky, I have therefore determined to make all else
yield to your wishes, and to accept the appointment: This
determination has resulted in part, from a pressing letter,
from my excellent friend Jas Rucks Esq., who states that
he has pledged himself for my acceptance-
Be pleased to accept my thanks for this additional
evidence of your partiality for-
Sir Yours most truly—
