ful Consideration. I offer you the testimonye [sic], of the gen
=erous Confidence of a majoritye [sic] of the Senatorial, district
which I represented, in my favor - I have no doubt
that Confidence would have been more strongly renew
=ed at the approaching election, had I have solicited
it. But private Considerations, made it necessary that
I should decline, and I have done so.

Should you think proper to Confer the appointment
upon me it will be gratefully received and it
shall be my study and Constant aim to discharge
the duties of it in such manner as to give general
satisfaction - If you choose to answer this, direct
to me at Newport, Cocke County -
