Nashville December 4th 1827.

Sir:

Understanding that a resolution passed to day,
calling upon you for information respecting a devise
of Mason Lee deceased to the State of Tennessee, I
have the honor to transmit herewith, an extract from
a communication made to the Legislature by me,
on the 1st of November 1826, which was, I believe,
accompanied by all the papers relating to the
subject received previous to that time. Since
that period, two letters have been received from
Josiah J Evans, Esquire, the Attorney employed to attend
to the interest of this State, which with copies of
my answers will be found under cover.

These papers with those heretofore laid before
the General Assembly will enable the Legislature
to act as they may ^deem proper on the subject. It may
not be improper however to remark, that the
act of 1823 as I conceive, authorizes the Governor
to do every thing which may be necessary to secure
the interest of Tennessee.

I have the honor to be,
Most respectfully,
Wm Carroll

His Excellency
Saml Houston,
Nashville.
