Dr Sir
Tho the interview which I had with you
during your visit, last summer at Paris, was but of short duration,
yet I hope you have not entirely forgotten me. I then observed to
you, that a Gentleman of Louisville to whom I had letters of introduction
had proposed giving me a letter to you, but which I thought I would
have little chance of delivering as it was too far distant from the
place of my destination - This proposition I would willingly have
embraced had I foreseen that I would have had the opportunity
which has since occurred

come to the determination, in consequence of the debilitated state

district I have thought it adviseable to make application to you
Sir, requesting the appointment of the office, if you should deem
me worthy of your approbation - Tho I am, what may be
