Dear Sir -

My friend Major G. W. Terrel will
be an applicant for the pro tem appointment
of atto - General for this District. he is a
high minded and an honorable man and in
-ferior in talents to none of his age in
Tennessee, that he will in euery respect
be competent to the discharges of the duties
of the office. no one who knows him
can for a moment scrutinise - if in your
discretion you should ^think proper to confer on
him the appointment, the selection will
so far as my knowledge extends, be acceptable
to the people of this District. - confer the app
-ointment on whome you may, I will
say that you could not giue it to a
more ^worthy or deseruing man, nor one that
would fearless of consequences discharge
the duties of the office with more fidel
-ity
