My Dear Sir
Pardon me for the trouble
I so frequently give you, but I
cannot withhold from the young
gentleman who is the subject of this
letter an expression of the high opinion
I entertain of his qualities as a gentleman
& his talents as a man Saml M. Hankens
Esquire has been some time in the practice
of the law, He has appeared before me in some
cases, & I have been highly pleas'd with
his talents & equally so with his
deportment as a gentleman
He wishes the pro tem appointment of
attorney General of this District &
I have no doubt his appointment
would give general satisfaction
I am with very high respect sir
yours &c &c
