May 18th 1828
Dear Sir after my best compliments
to you and the small acquaintance I have
with you. I take the liberty of addressing
a few lines to you. Sir you will receive
[page damaged] from the citizens of white County
[damage] George Broiles the said
[damage] found guilty in our last circuit
[damage] stabing a certain Matthew
More of our County and fined fifty dollars
and to be imprisoned for three months
and your petitioners wishes you to release
the said Broiles from imprisonment your
petitioners are more than halfe of our
County we vote fiften hundred strong
and your petitioners are Eight hundred and
thirteen. Sir I have been accquanted with
George Broiles for Eight years and find him
to be a sober industrious young man
an of as good a family as any in our County
he does not frequent the midnight tavern
nor the card table. Sir if a moutiner was
to catch you by the throat who woud
not resort to Mr Broiles [damage]
think for one moment Mr [damage]
supporter of a widowed [damage]
old age and her olphan [damage]
dont wish to lay any blame [damage]
but only say it would do no [damage]
the support from a widowed Mathr [damage]
the said Broiles to go in gail for three months
