Sparta July 2nd 1828.
Dear Sir
A petition has been presented to you, in favor of
George Broyles of this county, for the purpose of getting
him reprieved from 3 months imprisonment, to which
he was sentenced by the Circuit Court for this County-
You will find my name to the petition, as well as
about six hundred other citizens of White County who
are acquainted with Mr Broyles. Mr [Tierney?] informs
me, that one objection you have to granting the
Petition is, that a great many of the names
appear to have been signed by the same
person, consequently maybe forgeries- as to this
fact I know nothing, further than what is
contained in a letter from Majr Beadles to
you, from which it appears that he was au=
=thorised to sign about 100 names to it, and
his statement is entitled to the utmost credit-
I have been acquainted with Mr Broyles for
the last 8 years, and have always viewed
him as an honest industrious Citizen, not
in the habit of getting into quarrels- in
fact, I am informed that this is the first ^serious
difficulty that he ever had with any person.-
