I know that it is very seldom when a person
is found guilty, that a reprieve should be granted-
But there are cases where Executive Clemency
should interfere; and my impressions are that
Broyles case is one of them. But your own
sound discretion will dictate to you what
is the proper course to pursue in this matter.
I do not wish to intrude my opinions on
you- I would be the last person in the world
that would advise you to do anything that
was not sanctioned by my Judgment.-

It was my intention to have been
with you at Carthage, but I have been
disappointed of that pleasure. We will
try and make a little fuss in this place
on the 4th

Respectfully
John W Ford

Gov. Houston
