White County - W- Tennessee the 2nd of July 1828
To his Excellency -
Sir I forward this letter to let you know that
I am well acquainted with a circumstance that
has come before you for your consideration- respecting
a suit brough against George Broiles by the state
for stabbing of Matthew G Moore which was decided
in March last against the sd Broiles whare with
sd Broiles was fined- Sentenced to three month
imprisonment which Sentence the sd Broiles
thought to be unjust and tharefore prayd an appeal
to a higher tribunal ^which was granted him since which
time he has draw up a petition for the purpose of
getting relieved of the imprisonment which was
assigned by a large number of the Citizens of this
County which petition I assigned my self
by the request of those who could not assign their own
names with a number that could be assigned for them it
being a public paper which of course would attend
public gathering where I frequently met with it
and being well acquainted with a great number of
the citizens of this County and at the several gather
ings and by the frequent applications of the good people
it being almost a general voice assign the petition
I assigned between 50, and 100 in my own hand
write.
