Dear Sir.

An application has Just been made to me by
my friend and neighbor Mr Broils, which I should find it diffi
=cult to resist, were I so inclined. You have already been advised,
that he has been tried and Convicted on a charge for stabbing Moore. He has been sentenced by Our Circuit Judge
to recieve three months imprisonment, pay a fine of fifty
Dollars, and give Security for his good behaviour for 12
months. -

I was not his Counsel - But I have heard
the cause twice investigated.- Once on the Indictment, and
more recently on the trial of a suit for Damages: and from
my own personal knowledge of the case, I do not hesitate
to say that the punishment greatly exceeds the offence.

All he asks, or can reasonably expect is, that the punishment
may be remitted so far as relates to the imprisonment.
